ThinkPad T480s vs T14s Gen 1: Which Refurbished ThinkPad Should You Buy in 2026?

Ask any IT department in the UAE which laptop survives the longest, and the answer is almost always the same: Lenovo ThinkPad. The T-series is the gold standard of the refurbished market in Dubai and Sharjah — but which one should you actually buy: the slim, light T480s, or the newer T14s Gen 1? Here is the honest, no-fluff comparison, with real UAE prices and a clear verdict for every type of buyer.

Short answer: the ThinkPad T480s is the value pick (slim, light, and the lowest-priced ThinkPad in our store); the ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 is the modern pick (a newer 10th-gen chip, a slim metal chassis, and the longest remaining life). Both are excellent refurbished buys in Sharjah, and the right one depends on your budget and how long you plan to keep it.

ThinkPad T480s: the slim value pick

The T480s is the slim ThinkPad: the same legendary keyboard and durability in a thinner, lighter chassis. At just 1.32 kg, with a 14-inch Full HD display, an Intel Core i7 (8th Gen), 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SSD, it is a favorite among those who want classic ThinkPad reliability without the bulk. Its Intel UHD 620 graphics suit documents, browsing and video calls, and USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 covers modern docks and displays. In our store it is the lowest-priced ThinkPad, at AED 870.

Buy the T480s if: your budget is tight, you carry your laptop daily and want the lightest ThinkPad we sell, or you want the classic ThinkPad keyboard in a slim body. It is the easiest ThinkPad to keep alive for years, and the best value in our current ThinkPad range.

Skip it if: you want the newest chip and the longest remaining life — that is the T14s Gen 1 below.

ThinkPad T14s Gen 1: the modern pick

The T14s Gen 1 is the modern ThinkPad in our range: a slim metal chassis, an Intel Core i7 (10th Gen), 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SSD, with a 14-inch Full HD display and Intel UHD graphics. It is the fastest refurbished ThinkPad we sell, and the one with the longest remaining life ahead of it: a refurbished T14s Gen 1 bought today will comfortably serve 4–5+ more years. The ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 (i7 10th-gen, 16GB RAM) gives you the premium slim T14s variant with serious performance, at AED 1,070.

Buy the T14s Gen 1 if: you want the fastest, most future-proof refurbished ThinkPad in our store, you do development or heavy multitasking, or you simply want the newest machine your budget allows.

Which ThinkPad is best for you?

For students

T480s. The lowest-priced ThinkPad in our store and light at 1.32 kg for carrying between classes, with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD that cover study work and more.

For office work and business

T14s Gen 1. The slimmer, more modern metal body looks better in meetings, and the newer 10th-gen chip handles video conferencing and big spreadsheets with ease. If the laptop is a daily driver for work, the T14s Gen 1’s extra speed is worth it.

For programmers and developers

T14s Gen 1. 16GB RAM, a fast 512GB SSD and 10th-gen performance handle compilers, containers and virtual machines. The T480s is a surprisingly capable budget dev machine too.

For the tightest budget

T480s, no contest. It is the most ThinkPad per dirham in our store.

What to check when buying a refurbished ThinkPad in Sharjah

ThinkPads are tanks, but verify these before you pay — whether you buy from us or any Sharjah trader:

1. Battery health: ask for the actual health percentage. All our ThinkPads are battery health-tested before listing.
2. Keyboard and TrackPoint: every key and the red TrackPoint should work — these are the soul of a ThinkPad. Test them.
3. Screen: check for bright spots and dead pixels on a white and a black screen.
4. Exact CPU generation: “i7” alone tells you nothing — a 10th-gen i7 (T14s Gen 1) is newer and faster than an 8th-gen i7 (T480s). Our listings always state the exact processor.
5. Warranty in writing: 12 months is the serious-seller standard. We give 12 months on every ThinkPad, plus 10-day returns.
